Both Plant and Animal cells have similar organelles including, ribosomes, cytoplasm and nucleus. The main difference between the 2 cell types is that plant cells contain chloroplast. Chloroplast is the food producers in the cell, which helps to produce energy. |
Roles of The Organelles Cell Membrane The cell membrane is a double layered membrane that controls what enters and exits the cell and helps keeps materials inside the side. Mitochondria Looks like nutri-grain pieces, oval shaped with holes. Provides energy for the cells processes through cellular respiration by producing ATP which is an energy storing molecule. Golgi Body Flattened disc shaped, stacked on top of each other. Responsible for the secretion of products such as proteins and liquids. Resources Used Yr 10 Human Biology Booklet-cells http://www.biology4kids.com/files/cell_chloroplast.html | Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) ER comes in two forms, rough and smooth. Rough ER is covered with ribosomes and transports proteins within the cell. Smooth ER is not covered in ribosomes and produces liquids Vacuoles Valcuoles in animal cells are usually smaller than in plant cells. They are responsible for storage of minerals and waste disposal. Nucleus The nucleus is the brain of the cell, it contains genes and chromosomes which control the activity of the cell. If the nucleus is damaged or removed the cell will die. |
